What Voices do I Listen To?

“Happy Monday! I must say, I am dragging today to say the least (you can ask my husband). However, I have a list of to-do's to complete for both my day job and night job (aka all of you amazing humans)! I wanted to spend a moment to talk about today's mass readings because, honestly, no amount of To-Do's should ever impact reflecting on God's Word.

A verse that stood out to me in today's Gospel is:

"“…When he has driven out all his own,
he walks ahead of them, and the sheep follow him,
because they recognize his voice.
But they will not follow a stranger;
they will run away from him,
because they do not recognize the voice of strangers.”"

John 10:4

I had this immediate thought around the idea of “are there voices that I KNOW I don't recognize in my own life, yet I listen to them anyway?"

These might not be voices from the people around you (or they might be), they may be voices in your own head. The beliefs you are sadly telling yourself day in and day out that you listen to but you KNOW they are not the voice of God.

I challenge you today, and myself for that matter, to take a moment to think of those voices and remind yourself that as Jesus is the Good Shepherd, we are his sheep and we recognize only His voice. No one else's. Turn back to the Good Shepherd, our Lord Jesus, and ask Him to clearly speak to you so you can hear His voice, recognize it, and follow it back to His loving arms. ”
