Epic Fail Leads to Epic Business Lessons

As the week is wrapping up, I thought it might be fun to just share some of the highlights and the not so glamorous parts of this past week.

A couple of big wins was with my marketing clients. I kept my to-do list neat and checked off, kept in touch with my clients, and was able to really commit to completing tasks.

On the not so bright side, I completely messed up a domain switch to a new website for a client. Because I moved the domain over to the new website I created, I broke everyone’s Outlook email. Essentially, I unintentionally stopped everyone’s email from working this past Monday. Needless to say, I was mortified.

I was just bee-bopping my way through Monday and then BAM – I received a panicked phone call saying “this is a BIG problem. This needs to be fixed now.”

Queue me stopping everything I’m doing for the whole day (simultaneously praying a nervous rosary) and focusing only on fixing this issue, leading to trouble shooting, chatting with online bots, etc. for 5+ hours. I did end up getting fixed, but I was pretty upset by the time 5 o’clock rolled around on Monday. It was definitely NOT the way I wanted to start my week.

The rest of my week had other similar instances like my Monday madness, but I realized a couple things.
– Communicate, communicate, communicate. When you feel like you’ve shared everything you can with everyone you’re doing business with, think again. Just make sure that you have done your part in including everyone that needs to be included in a decision. If I had asked for certain things and not been so rushed, I think things would have felt a little less hectic.

– Plan major business moves (like a domain switch) on the weekend when less individuals will be effected.

– Take it all as a learning opportunity. One of my other clients also needs a new website I created to be moved to their domain and because of what I just experienced, I am being extra careful and including anyone and everyone just to ensure I have all the information I need to do the switch successfully

.I must say I am glad for the weekend, but I am also so glad for all the things I learned this past week. God really does show up even if it feels like the complete opposite. Any and every experience is just another thing to bring to Jesus, for Him to take care of. Until next time, keep doing what you’re doing, and bring everything to Jesus – He has always GOT YOU.
